Dry Comal Creek Dam Project Gets New $4.8M Contract for Cut-Off Wall
(Comal County, TX) -- Comal County Commissioners met yesterday and approved a 4.8-million contract with Hayward Baker of Houston for the construction of the cut off wall at the Dry Comal Creek. After the cutoff wall is complete, and groundwater is prevented from moving beneath the location of the proposed dam, construction will resume on the rest of the project. Now that this contract is in place, with construction starting soon, Commissioners are hopeful that they are back on track with that project, which must be mostly complete by this summer in order to receive federal funding. In other action yesterday: Comal County Commissioner’s Court has given their Justice Center Steering Committee a thousand dollars to pay for travel expenses and to maintain a public website to share their findings. At their meeting yesterday morning, Commissioners approved that budget transfer to give that committee some funds to operate as it was intended. The committee, which is charged with the responsibility of coming up with recommendations regarding the potential construction and location of a county Justice Center.

Our hats are off to the County Commissioners who have been battling this project from the start. Judge Scheel and the County Commissioners are to be commended for their efforts to ensure completion of the Krueger Canyon Flood Retention facility. Their persistence and determination to complete this critical flood control project is to be applauded.
They have fought one obstacle after another over a period of about 10 years, and just about when they think they have put those obstacles to rest, something else springs up. It appears finally they have succeeded.
Following completion of this preparatory project, it appears there is one last hurdle and that is the completion of the construction of the dam itself on top of this cutoff wall.
We sincerely thank the Comal County Commissioners and the Comal County Engineering personnel who have worked so diligently to see this project to completion.
Sincerely,
Gary W. Spence
