(New Braunfels, TX) -- The New Braunfels ISD school board is expected to vote tonight on whether they want to move forward with plans to provide iPads to all freshmen next school year.

The One-to-One iPad initiative would give a 32GB iPad, valued at $479, to every 9th grade student in the district, as a way to integrate technology in the classroom, and give students the chance to use that technology while at home to work on assignments, projects, and studying.

If the school board approves the plan being presented by district staff tonight, it would make next year’s freshmen class the first in what would be the start of a much larger program that would eventually provide iPads and other technology to students from 5th grade to their senior year.

But for now, the school board is only considering the program for 9th graders, and NBISD Superintendent Randy Moczygemba gave us a rundown of the costs, including the roughly 300-thousand dollars needed to actually purchase the new iPad's from Apple. You can hear his complete comments by clicking the Audio Clip link below.

Again, the NBISD School Board will vote on the One-to-One iPad Initiative at tonight’s school board meeting, set for 7pm at the NBISD Education Center on West Mill Street.
