New Braunfels Man Dies from Injuries After Struck Twice by SUV's on Hwy 46
(New Braunfels, TX) -- A New Braunfels man, who had been hospitalized for more than a week since he was struck twice by SUV’s while walking along State Hwy 46, has died from his injuries.
21-year old Juan Carlos Montoya was walking along Hwy 46 East near Sauder Lane (east of the Avery Park Subdivision) early on the morning of Sunday Jan. 15th, when he was hit by an SUV, only to, moments later, be struck again, before a 3rd vehicle was able to stop in such a way as to block traffic until emergency crews could arrive on the scene.
Montoya suffered severe head and body injuries in that accident, and was unconscious and unresponsive when EMS crews loaded him onto an Airlife helicopter and sent him in critical condition to University Hospital in San Antonio. The 21-year old remained in critical condition over the last week and a half, but died yesterday at the hospital.
Montoya was said to have been wearing all dark-colored clothing the morning he was hit, and, according to initial reports by New Braunfels Police, he was seen stumbling into the southbound lanes of traffic on Hwy 46 just prior to being hit.
The investigation into the accident is ongoing, but there has been no word, so far, of any charges being filed against either of the drivers.
