Parker Rejoins Race for Unexpired Texas Railroad Commission Term
(Comal County, TX) -- Pct. 3 Comal County Commissioner Greg Parker says he’s back in the race for Texas Railroad Commissioner.
After suspending his campaign in mid-January because of a lack of fundraising support, Parker sent out an email blast yesterday indicating that he is back in the hunt for the unexpired term created when Michael Williams vacated his seat to run for US Senate.
Parker faces Barry Smitherman, who was appointed to the seat by Gov. Rick Perry until the 2012 election could take place. Parker’s re-entry into that race is due, in no small part, to an unexpected victory in the Tarrant County Republican Party straw poll where he took nearly 64% of the vote.
Parker says he is battling “big money insiders and party operatives” in an era where the “politically elite” hand select the next representative on the Railroad Commission.
Parker says he is in full-fledged fundraising mode, trying to keep his momentum going, while waiting out the decision on when the Texas Primary election will be held.
