(San Marcos, TX) -- Two Texas DPS Troopers from the San Marcos area have been indicted on charges of official oppression, according to a report in the San Marcos Mercury. 28-year old Charlie Potter and 33-year old Santiago Montez are currently on suspension with pay after they were indicted last month following an incident in March where they allegedly subjected two men to mistreatment or detention by pulling or grabbing them. Official oppression is a Class A Misdemeanor punishable, if convicted at trial, by up to a year in jail. The two DPS Troopers were arrested on Sept. 22nd and released the same day after each posted a 10-thousand dollar bond. Indictments are not a finding of guilt, and all defendants are innocent until proven guilty. The pair will now stand trial on those charges in the coming months.
