BOYS BASKETBALL
The New Braunfels Unicorn boys took a big blow to their playoff hopes last night, after New Braunfels lost on the road at Wagner 63-40. Kyle Hittle led the Unicorns with 17 points in the loss which drops New Braunfels to 3-5 in 25-5A play, a game back of the fourth and final playoff spot with just two games left to play. The Canyon Cougars crushed Lockhart last night 88-20 at the Cougar Den; Andrew Poulter led the Cougars with 17 points, Sean Tollinger scored 14 for Canyon which is now 22-10 on the season, 9-2 in 27-4A play. Smithson Valley’s boys took a big step towards clinching a playoff berth last night, defeating Clemens 71-55 at Ranger Gym. Josh Mann led the Rangers with 17 points; with the win Smithson Valley improves to an even 15-15 overall, 4-6 in district, one game better than Lehman for fourth place in 27-4A with two games left to play. The New Braunfels Christian Academy boys ran their win streak to 11 straight with an 80-61 win at Austin Regents last night. Dylan Larson scored a game high 31 points to lead the Wildcats who are now 23-6, 12-0 in TAPPS 6-3A play.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
The Academy girls came up short at Austin Regents last night, with a 49-39 loss. Kendal Warren led the Wildcats in defeat with 25 points; the loss drops the Academy to 16-6, 10-2 in district. In other area girls basketball finals from last night, New Braunfels closed out its season with a 53-33 loss at home to Wagner, the Unicorns finish the season with a record of 11-20. The Canyon Cougarettes head into the playoffs on a 10 game winning streak after Canyon completed a perfect run in district play last night with a 59-39 win on the road over Lockhart. Chamaya Turner led the Cougarettes with 23 points; Canyon finishes the regular season with a record of 23-6 and a perfect 12-0 in 27-4A play. Smithson Valley closed out its season with a 74-59 defeat at Clemens, the Rangers finish the season with a record of 11-21.

In boys high school soccer last night, New Braunfels came up short against Fredericksburg 4-2 at Unicorn Stadium, Dylan Rowe and John O’Brien each scored for New Braunfels which is now 4-4-2 on the season. The New Braunfels girls and Canyon Cougarettes played to a 1-1 tie at Cougar Stadium last night, Smithson Valley and Steele also played to a 1-1 tie at Ranger Stadium, Canyon Lake’s girls were shutout at Pleasanton by a final of 3-nil.
